"Microwave amplifiers"
Natasa Males-Ilic
Natasa Males-Ilic received the Dipl. Ing. and M.Sc. degrees in electronic engineering from the University of Nis, Nis, Serbia in 1992 and 1997, respectively and the Ph.D. degree at the Department of Electronic Systems, University of Westminster, London, U.K. in 2004. In June 1993, she joined the Nis University, Faculty of Electronic Engineering, where she is presently a Full Professor at the Department of Telecommunications. Professional orientation of Dr. Males-Ilic is toward Microwave theory and techniques, microwave electronic and wireless communications. Her current research interests relate to the analysis and design of microwave circuits, such as power amplifiers with improved intermodulation and efficiency performances for multichannel applications. She has authored or co-authored approximately 120 scientific and technical papers published in the refereed international and national journals, proceedings of international and national conferences. She is a coauthor of a student book Introduction to microwave and Microwave electronics. Also, she is IEEE member.
Microwave amplifiers
The first part of lecture is devoted to the students and relates to Microwave amplifiers –the amplifier characterization and design of amplifier with maximum gain as well as low/noise amplifier. The second part of lecture relates to the Linearization of microwave power amplifiers by even-order nonlinear baseband signal processed in digital domain'. The increasing importance of spectral efficiency in contemporary wireless systems requires a new generation of communication technologies and standards characterized by a high data rate (WCDMA, OFDM). The transmitter design imposes requirements on various modulation formats (e.g. QPSK, QAM), as well as a diversity of signal bandwidths and frequency ranges. Accordingly, the power amplifiers required to process high rate non-constant envelope signals need to support good linearity and high power efficiency. This lecture is devoted to the linearization method based on baseband digital processing in order to create adequate linearization signals of the second- and fourth-order nonlinearities that modulate the fundamental carrier second harmonic. The effects of proposed linearization method are evaluated on a single stage power amplifier and Doherty amplifier in simulation and experiment
