Holiday meeting for women on the occasion of March 8 at TU - Sofia

On the occasion of International Women's Day on March 8th, a festive meeting of women who graduated from the Technical University of Sofia took place, organized by the "Career and Alumni" Center. 

The Rector of the Technical University of Sofia, Corresponding Member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Dr. Eng. Georgi Mihov, welcomed the women with the words: "I am proud and happy that you are in your Alma Mater! You are remarkable women because each of you has achieved success and growth at different levels and positions. But you owe your growth to what the Technical University has given you – education and upbringing. I am convinced that just as you owe your authority to the Technical University, the university also owes its authority to your successes. Thank you for everything you do to support and develop it."

Mr. Vasil Velev, Chairman of the Association of Industrial Capital in Bulgaria and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of TU-Sofia, also a graduate of the university, congratulated the attending women on behalf of the Board of Trustees. He emphasized the fact that women in Bulgaria, compared even to some developed countries, are equal to men in terms of holding various responsible positions. This is due to their professional qualities and applies especially to graduates of the Technical University of Sofia. 

In her welcome address, the Chairperson of the National Assembly, Tsetska Tsacheva, stated that it is an exceptional privilege for her to be an honorary member of the Alumni Network of the Technical University of Sofia. She pointed out that her education at the Technical University gave her knowledge and self-confidence and forged her character. Today, it is no longer a problem for women engineers to be equal to men, to whom she thanked for recognizing their qualities. On the eve of International Women's Day, the Chairperson of the National Assembly wished all women to be healthy, purposeful, loved, and to have the self-confidence that they graduated from one of the most prestigious universities in Bulgaria.

Tanya Mihaylova, Deputy Minister of Education and Science, thanked her university professors not only for the acquired knowledge but also for the attitude towards the profession of engineer that they helped build. At the same time, she expressed her satisfaction at being part of the university's Alumni Network, as this is an expression of the connection between the past and the present and points the way to the future. Mrs. Mihaylova added that an engineer is taught to be organized, to find solutions in difficult situations, to achieve their goals, and to take responsibility.

The Rector of the Technical University of Sofia, Corresponding Member Professor Dr. Eng. Georgi Mihov announced as honorary members of the Alumni Network distinguished female graduates. Those honored with a certificate and plaque are: Eng. Tsveta Karayancheva – Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria, Eng. Petia Avramova – Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, Eng. Tanya Mihaylova – Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Eng. Valentina Taneva – Advisor to the President of the Republic of Bulgaria on education, science, and innovation, Prof. Dr. Eng. Elena Shoykova – the first and only woman to date to serve as Deputy Rector of TU-Sofia, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eng. Stela Stefanova – Director of the Technological University "Electronic Systems" at TU-Sofia, Eng. Lidia Shuleva – Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria in the period 2001-2005; Eng. Rumyana Georgieva – owner of "Energy MT", Eng. Amelia Dimitrova – owner of the media platform "Engineer BG", and Eng. Sasha Bezukhanova – founder of MOVE.BG.
