With a solemn ceremony today, "Faculty and College - Sliven" of the Technical University - Sofia opened the new academic year.
A water blessing for health and success was performed by Father Ioan, representative of the Sliven Metropolitan Arseniy.
Among the official guests were the mayor of Sliven Stefan Radev, the regional governor Chavdar Bozhurski, the chairman of the Municipal Council Dimitar Mitev, the deputy mayor for humanitarian activities Dr. Pepa Chilikova, representatives of the Regional Directorate of Education and the Medical University - Varna. The hosts of the event were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vanyo Ivanov - head of "Faculty and College - Sliven", Assoc. Prof. Dr. Niven Krastev - dean of the Engineering-Pedagogical Faculty, and Dr. Violeta Raykova - director of the college.
"Welcome to our united family," welcomed the students Assoc. Prof. Vanyo Ivanov. He recalled that for more than six decades, the faculty and college in Sliven have been paving the way for realization in engineering and pedagogy. According to him, the new academic year begins with optimism, as the mission to prepare the next generation of engineers has been fulfilled.
"For many, September 23 is an ordinary working day, but for all of us who are here in this extraordinary place, it is a spiritual holiday. Here you will find knowledge of the world. This knowledge gives us the strength and ability to live in reality, not in illusory, invented worlds," said Father Ioan in his speech. He wished the students health and determination "to build upon in the name of their city and their country."
Mayor Stefan Radev congratulated the first-year students: "Our country needs engineers and pedagogues. Sliven and Bulgaria await you as well-prepared specialists." He wished health and success to all students and teachers.
Regional Governor Chavdar Bozhurski emphasized: "The rapid development of technology and the penetration of artificial intelligence make your specialties increasingly necessary. Use your time here to the fullest - be diligent, inventive, and responsible."
Congratulatory addresses were sent by the Regional Directorate of Education and the Medical University - Varna. One of them noted: "The Engineering-Pedagogical Faculty in Sliven is establishing itself as a modern educational center with contemporary practices and a European appearance."
"At the beginning of every academic year, we do not simply open classes, but open doors to the future," said Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Naven Krastev in his welcome address. He emphasized the importance of human attitude in education: "Every lecture, every consultation, even a smile in the hallway can change someone's path. Let us do our work with respect for the person next to us."
"Knowledge is priceless and no one can take it away from you," said the college director Dr. Violeta Raykova. She wished the students courage to ask, a quest for wisdom, and success in their academic and personal development.
