To participate in a competition for creativity and responsiveness to win a scholarship of 3000 leva from the Round Table club and invest it in her new engineering initiatives. This is the path chosen by Svetoslava Georgieva, a second-year student majoring in "Mechatronics" at the Technical University – Plovdiv branch. Part of the scholarship will go towards making a copy of the first printing press of Hristo G. Danov, says Svetoslava Georgieva. She has a strong interest in book creation – from printing to pasting and sewing. Therefore, she has carefully researched which printing presses were used in Bulgaria over the last 100-120 years. She "discovered" Hristo G. Danov's printing press in the eponymous house-museum in Plovdiv.
"I acknowledge that I cannot make a 100% copy of Hristo G. Danov's 'American' machine, because the machine cannot be disassembled to take exact measurements of each part. The museum gave me the idea to draw the machine in a volumetric format /3D format/ and through a printer to make small machines that will be souvenirs. During the work, I learned what kind of person our reviver was. His idea 'Education for All' appeals to me a lot, I support it and will support it through my work." – explains a second-year student from the Technical University – Plovdiv branch.
The other development in the field of mechatronics that Svetoslava Georgieva wants to complete is to create a smart self-watering flower pot. So far, she has invested her own 150 euros for the purchase of sensors, relays, and an Arduino-type board, which will allow the smart pot to self-water when the soil dries out and the flower needs water. "My smart pot is not yet fully completed. It includes the three directions of mechatronics. I have not yet developed the body of the pot itself. It is important because it determines how the cables will enter the pot. I still need to draw the model of the pot and manufacture it with a 3D printer. My expenses so far are 150 euros, but I will have to invest more in my prototype. I clarify that if smart pots go into industrial production, they will not cost as much, but less. My investment is such because I did not have any materials and started from scratch. I bought the parts from Germany, and during delivery, there was no way to receive only one piece of each required component. My prototype can then be tested not only in one pot, but in a greenhouse with flowers, where the effect will be many times greater." – explains Svetoslava Georgieva.
The successful student begins her higher education in a completely different field and at a completely different university. For three years, she studies linguistics with information technology at Plovdiv University "Paisiy Hilendarski". In her third year, she goes on an exchange to the Technical University of Dresden, Germany.
And there she discovers that it is not linguistics, but mechatronics that is her science. She prepares for the exams at the Technical University – Plovdiv branch and embraces her dream – she starts studying engineering sciences. Currently, the girl is using the break between the two semesters to complete an internship at a robotics company "Da Vinci". At the same time, she is creating a digital twin of a pumping station and a transformer substation. "I think it is a project of the future that we need and it will most likely enter the industry first, and then perhaps our homes. Now I am analyzing and choosing the programs I will use. The digital twin will give advantages to the productions themselves, as well as to all people, because we all use services like electricity, water, wastewater. It is unpleasant for all of us when, for example, the electricity or water supply stops, not to mention that the company suffers losses when a machine stops. The idea of the 3D twin is to work in such a way that it knows a week before a machine breaks down that it will break. And exactly what in the machine will break. And how worn out the parts are, so whether it is time to replace them." – explains the essence of her development by the student from the Technical University – Plovdiv branch.
Svetoslava Georgieva's dream is to create solutions that make people's lives easier in an intelligent, sustainable, and nature-friendly way. Her conviction is that technology should serve humans without harming the environment. And she believes that engineering can be a combination of efficiency and care – for people, animals, and nature. The student at the Technical University – Plovdiv branch has found her own way to combine her engineering practice with personal volunteer initiatives: for women's health and well-being, for helping orphaned children. "I am now participating in the 'Teddy Bear' campaign, which is dedicated to children from the home in the village of Zvnichievo. Personally, I have directed my help to a child in a home for children with special needs. I prepared a Christmas gift for him and we even assembled it, as he wanted a wooden shop." – said Svetoslava Georgieva.
