A modern, high-tech equipped hall with 600 seats and open doors at the Technical University of Sofia, the Press Center of the Ministry of Education and Science announced.
The opening took place during a solemn academic council on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the higher education institution, attended by the Minister of Education and Science Krasimir Valchev and the Head of the Minister's Office, Eng. Tanya Mihaylova.
The Chairman of the General Assembly of the Technical University – Sofia, Prof. Georgi Todorov, and Prof. Ivan Králov gave the name to the new facility – 'Tech Arena'. It is built on the site of a former foundry and is expected to become a place for exchanging scientific experience, where new projects will be born and engineering talents will be developed.
Minister Valchev congratulated the university on its anniversary and expressed confidence that the new hall will also be used by other higher education institutions and organizations. He pointed out that TU – Sofia is one of the higher education institutions on which the country's public and socio-economic development relies to the greatest extent.
The Minister noted a positive change in student admissions this year. 'The number of students in technical professional fields is increasing overall, and even more so at the Technical University of Sofia,' said Minister Valchev.
He received a jubilee gold medal on the occasion of the university's 80th anniversary. The Head of the Minister's Office, Eng. Tanya Mihaylova, was also awarded with a medal; she is also a member of the Board of Trustees of TU-Sofia.
'I am an engineer, and I thank the Technical University for what it has given me,' said Tanya Mihaylova.
Jubilee medals were also presented to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Innovations and Growth Tsvetan Tsvetanov, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of TU – Sofia and the Association of Industrial Capital in Bulgaria Vasil Velev, the Chairman of the Management Board of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Dobri Mitrev, the Chairman of the Trade Union 'Higher Education and Science' at the CCBT Prof. Liliya Valcheva, the Chairman of the National Representation of Student Councils Angel Stoykov, the Rector of the University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy Prof. Senya Terzieva, and other long-term partners of the Technical University.
