The Technical University – Sofia is the oldest and largest technical higher education institution in Bulgaria, shaping the country's engineering and technological landscape since its establishment. TU – Sofia remains the sole Bulgarian representative in the field of engineering sciences in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings — a ranking in which only five Bulgarian universities are included for 2026. The university also debuted in the QS Subject Rankings 2025 in the field of 'Computer Science'.

Among the specialties that offer exceptionally good prospects for future employment are cybersecurity and artificial intelligence; data analysis; intelligent systems in industry, city, and home; digital industrial technologies; automotive electronics; aerospace engineering; mechatronics; renewable energy technologies and fluid mechanics; thermal and nuclear energy; industrial management; intellectual property and innovation, and others.
