The doctoral program “Mathematical Modeling and Applications of Mathematics” (in professional field 4.5 Mathematics) provides opportunities for study and scientific research in the field of creating mathematical models of natural, socio-economic, technological, and other processes and phenomena. What are the admission requirements?

Individuals who have completed a “Master’s” degree may apply for the educational and scientific degree (ESD) of “Doctor” without any age restrictions.
The admission and training of doctoral students are in accordance with legal requirements (the Higher Education Act, the Research and Scientific Activity Act, the Regulations for the Implementation of the Research and Scientific Activity Act, and the Regulations on the Conditions and Procedures for Awarding Academic Titles at TU-Sofia).

Duration of study for the “Doctor” degree:(Note: The “Doctor” degree is awarded following the successful public defense of a dissertation.)

3 years for full-time study;
4 years for part-time study;
2 years of independent study.

The training of doctoral students at TU-Sofia (both full-time and part-time) is conducted in accordance with the requirements of the Higher Education Act and its Implementing Regulations, as well as TU-Sofia’s Internal Regulations. It follows an individual plan developed and approved by the Academic Council and the Faculty Council, which sets out the stages and deadlines for completion.

As part of the program, you will receive theoretical training and take exams in:

Your scientific specialty (Mathematical Modeling and Applications of Mathematics—a suitably selected area);
At least two theoretical disciplines in the field of the specifically chosen dissertation topic;
A foreign language of your choice.

Methodology for Writing Research Papers;
Others at the discretion of the academic advisor and according to the doctoral student’s interests.

The program includes:

Independent study;
Attendance at lectures (doctoral students may also attend other relevant elective courses);
Consultations with the academic advisor (at least once a week);
Periodic reports to the Academic Council;
Participation in seminars and scientific forums;
Writing and publishing the first scientific articles and drafting the dissertation.

Holders of the doctoral degree in mathematical modeling and the application of mathematics acquire advanced qualifications and can pursue careers as:
