The Technical University – Sofia is climbing up in the THE Sustainability Impact Ratings 2026 global ranking

The Technical University – Sofia is improving its performance in the Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Ratings 2026, which assesses universities' contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. In the 2026 edition, TU – Sofia is ranked in the 1001–1500 group among 1603 universities worldwide, participating with results in 6 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. This is an improvement compared to the previous edition, in which the university was in the 1501+ group.

The university shows the strongest performance in the areas of 'Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure', 'Affordable and Clean Energy', and 'Sustainable Cities and Communities'.

For the first area, results are particularly high in indicators related to scientific research on SDG 9 and patent activity, which underscores the profile of TU – Sofia as a leading technical university contributing to innovation, technological development, and the link between science and industry.

Results in the 'Affordable and Clean Energy' area are due to activities related to energy measures at the university, energy efficiency, scientific research, and commitment to low-carbon development.

The 'Sustainable Cities and Communities' area is related to research activities, sustainable practices, and support for cultural and social development.

Ranking in the THE Sustainability Impact Ratings is part of the efforts of the Technical University – Sofia to increase international visibility, sustainable development, education quality, innovation, and collaboration with industry. The results confirm the importance of systematic data collection, presentation of institutional policies and best practices, as well as the active participation of the academic community in initiatives related to sustainable development.
