The Department of Information-Measuring Technology traditionally provides training in the basic discipline "Electrical Measurements," which is common to all electrical engineering specialties at the Technical University of Sofia (from the Faculty of Automation, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, the Faculty of Electronic Engineering and Technologies, the Faculty of Telecommunications, and the Faculty of Computer Systems and Control). The Department also conducts specific basic training in metrology and measuring technology for students enrolled in the Faculty of Transport, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, the Faculty of English Engineering Education, and the Faculty of French Engineering Education.

The Department of Information-Measuring Technology provides training for students majoring in "Automation, Information and Control Engineering" at both the bachelor's and master's levels in the specialization "Information-Measuring Technology." Graduating engineers acquire modern knowledge and practical skills in the field of measuring electrical and non-electrical quantities, intelligent measuring instruments and systems, metrology and metrological assurance, quality control, and engineering activities in the field of measuring technology.

The Department is accredited to train doctoral students in the following scientific directions: "Electrical Measuring Technology," "Information-Measuring Systems," "Metrology and Metrological Assurance," and "Instruments and Systems for Analytical Measurements and Environmental Control" (including environmental control).

The Department of Information-Measuring Technology conducts active research in the field of measuring electrical and non-electrical quantities, modeling and metrological analysis of measuring instruments, intelligent sensors and measuring systems, virtual measuring instruments and information-measuring systems, as well as the measurement of biotechnological and ecological parameters.

Traditionally, the Department maintains relations with the Bulgarian Institute of Metrology, the State Agency for Metrological and Technical Supervision, the Executive Agency "Bulgarian Accreditation Service," the Bulgarian Institute for Standardization, and the Commission for Energy and Water Regulation. The Department is in direct contact and continuous exchange of personnel and knowledge with numerous private sector companies well-known on the national and international markets (such as "Delta Instrument," "Unitech Control," "Em Sist - 6," "Unisist," "Industrial Software," "ELIZ SV," "Praktika," and others), as well as with large private and state-owned enterprises such as: Kozloduy NPP, "EVBG Electricity Distribution," "Elektrohold" - Bulgaria, the Electric Energy System Operator (EESO), "Mines Maritza - East" EAD, Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ), and others.
