What will I learn?
The knowledge acquired is structured into four main areas: fundamental knowledge, specialized knowledge, language skills, and methods of scientific inquiry. The latter area encompasses the acquisition of methods for critical analysis, the development of abilities to formulate, synthesize, and apply scientific ideas and innovations, as well as skills for solving complex scientific problems. The program prepares doctoral students to expand and enrich their knowledge in the relevant scientific field, as well as to develop its interactions with other related scientific disciplines. In addition to specific knowledge, emphasis is placed on acquiring skills such as: using specialized literature (including that in a foreign language); systematizing, summarizing, and analyzing existing data; independently conducting scientific and applied research; and formulating and presenting results in a comprehensible, logical, precise, and accurate manner.
Dissertation topics in the Department of Machine Elements and Non-Metallic Structures are formulated around real-world problems dictated by practical needs. Doctoral students are encouraged to direct their research toward promising areas that would also benefit their own professional development following the successful completion of this advanced degree at the Technical University of Sofia. The results of the scientific research are widely published in authoritative specialized journals and presented at prestigious international conferences.
The requirements for the training of specialists holding a doctoral degree in the doctoral program “Methods for the Control and Testing of Materials, Products, and Equipment” are:
- to have excellent training and specialized knowledge in the field of destructive and non-destructive testing methods for materials;
- to have training in the field of CAD modeling technologies and the LabVIEW and MATLAB software products;
- to have excellent training in the field of materials science, materials technology, and solid-state physics;
- to have knowledge of modern measurement techniques;
- in-depth and creative understanding and use of the literature in the specific field in which the dissertation topic is formulated;
- demonstration of creative thinking;
- acquisition of a high level of skills, knowledge, and qualifications for theoretical and/or experimental research work.
