The doctoral program in “Automation of Engineering Work and Computer-Aided Design Systems” is driven by:

The growing interest of companies in the manufacturing sector in applied research related to the field of study, and the hiring of PhDs;
The need to replenish the faculty of tenured professors in this field of research by enhancing the educational and scientific qualifications of young teaching assistants and specialists from across the country;
The presence at the Faculty of Electronic Engineering and Technologies (FEET) of highly qualified tenured faculty members across a wide range of specializations with interests in current and promising scientific and applied research areas;
The availability at FETT of state-of-the-art research and teaching laboratories equipped with modern facilities;
Enhancing the qualifications of doctoral students.

There is a need for students completing a “Master’s” degree to further their education.
The program is conducted in strict compliance with the legal requirements for the training of doctoral students.

The requirements for preparation and training ensure the acquisition of the following knowledge and skills: The training and supervision of doctoral students are carried out by highly qualified, tenured faculty members, while the facilities are continuously improved and modernized to meet international standards.

Excellent training in the field of basic electronics, microelectronic components and technologies, and mathematical methods for data processing;
Specific knowledge in the field of microelectronic components and systems;
Training in the field of engineering automation;
Knowledge in the field of information technology, distributed systems, and distributed embedded systems;
Knowledge of current trends in microelectronic technologies and software design systems;
Application of modern advances in the fields of electronics, microelectronics, and information and communication technologies for research and development, analysis, and processing of information and data;
In-depth and creative understanding and use of specialized literature in the specific field;
Acquisition of a high level of skills, knowledge, and qualifications for theoretical and/or experimental research work and the demonstration of creative thinking.

The goal of the program is for doctoral students to develop into:

Competent, knowledgeable, and capable researchers, ready to meet the challenges of modern industry and technology;
Highly qualified faculty members for the Technical University of Sofia;
Specialists conducting applied research in close collaboration and constant contact with companies in the field, responding to their growing interest.
